Holy Names Ends Season at Sectional Semi-finals
The Holy Names 2009 soccer team fell to South Glens Falls, 3-1, in the Semi-final match of the Class A Sectional Semi-finals. Holy Names scored the games' first goal when Shelby Wood scored early in the first half. SGF tied the game less than 2 minutes before the half. But SGF shut out AHN in the second half and will play Friday in the Section 2 finals. Congratulations on a great season.
Holy Names Defeats Gloversville, 2-0
Kierra Moore had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 Class A quarterfinal sectional game against Gloversville. Shelby Wood hammered in the second goal and Quinn Massaroni assisted Moore on her first goal. Katie Sawicki had a fantastic one-handed save to preserve the shutout. AHN takes on the winner of the South Glens Falls/Lansingburgh game next week.
Holy Names Colonial Council Champions!!!!
Holy Names captured the Colonial Council Championship by beating the undefeated Schalmont team 2-1 Friday evening. AHN struck twice in the first half with Kierra Moore scoring off a direct kick and then off a long pass from Quinn Massaroni. After Schalmont scored deep in the second half, Holy Names held off the Sabres threat for over 15 minutes. Maura Tuffey, Quinn Massaroni, Christina Spicer, Ada Rubycz and Lee Arduini played a fantastic defensive game, covering the back after Jackie Murphy went down with an injury. Katie Sawicki stopped everything near the net. Bernie Jordan and Meg Scott brought tremendous pressure on the Sabres' defense to spread the game over the entire field. The entire team played like CHAMPIONS!!! Congratulations.
